Duality
I get pretty into certain computer games, and they sometimes stress me the hell out, I throw my headphones when I’m winning in Dawn of War 2 just to have my army wiped out by a carnifex because I looked away for a second, turning the tide of the whole game and causing me to lose. Like Call of Duty, Dawn of war, World of Warcraft, Counterstrike, Supreme Commander and a thousand other games I’ve played over the ages, Poker has the ability to stress the hell out of me. This is Tilt.
Tilt is the poker term for anything that causes you to go off your ‘A’ game. Bad beats and bad runs are a definite cause of tilt, and I’m a victim in this early stage of my poker life. I get thrown off this whole game because I’m new, I’m learning, and I’m losing. I’m a decent way in the red now and I’m getting easily stressed out by situations that shouldn’t occur. Finding an opponent beat you by raising J2 suited UTG for your whole stack when you had kings hurts. I’m told it’s better to be losing at the beginning, so you dont take loss later so hard and you don’t take winning for granted. I agree, and say ‘hey I’ve learned that lesson’, now can we get onto the winning?
Why are you stressed by loosing against J2 ?
Is it because of the money you are loosing ? Usualy thats a sign you are playing above a limit where you feel comfortable loosing the amount you are able to loose. (usualy a full buyin) Thats basicaly why bankroll management never can be the same for every player. One or another just feels more or less comfortable with loosing (and also winning) the same dollar amount. Best way to overcome this problem is by not seeing your chips as money, just make sure you get the value of money out of your system. (this also has some very big disadvantages but thats the other side of the medal
or play at a different limit ofcourse…
Or maybe you just can’t stand the stupidity of people and you still loose ? Then we all know what we need to do about that…. make sure you don’t look at the dollars you win but judge the desicions you made. Win or loose, getting it all in with KK against J2s can never be bad.
And I don’t know who told you that it’s better to be losing at the beginning ? He or she was wrong. It’s best to never loose! But unfortunatly, the fish but also the best player in the world both have their loosing hands. Therefore, you will always loose some of your hands. Better get used to it and look differently at it.
I was more annoyed that I used my brain to consider every angle of the hand that I could, including ranging and my best attempt at combinatorials, to be outdrawn by J2. And losing in the beginning doesn’t worry me, because I’m being permanantly staked and trained by a winning player, and was basically thrown in the deep end for my skill level. Bankroll managment is a bit different for me because of this, but I do know the fundamentals, and hope to stand on my oen two feet when the time comes!
Thanks for the comment!
